Still Learning Dutch

Hello everyone, I am still here!  It has been a while since I wrote a Dutch post, or any post for that matter.  It has been a really busy year for us and I will share more with you all soon.

I wish I could say I am a lot further than I am, but if I am honest I am using every excuse possible to why I am not where I wanted to be by now.  Work is my main excuse but I know that it is my fault and I should spend my free time more productively.

Last year I did manage to complete 2 Dutch courses, and can say I have officially passed A1 and A2 level.  This means total I now (should) know around 1500+ words.  I do notice that I understand some conversations around me but when it comes to responding, I can only reply with ja or nee or very limited short sentences.

The Repercussions of Surprising the Family

Shocking title to a blog post… I know.  I would like to write why such a lovely surprise has turned into me feeling guilty.

Too make it fair, each year we take turns spending time with each other’s family, and Christmas just past it was our turn to come to Scotland.  Flashback to November/December 2015, so far I had managed to not bring up any Christmas plans while on the many phone calls with my mum. (This was a huge achievement for me, I can not keep a secret, especially if it’s as big it this one).

Is It 2016 Already?

I seriously cannot believe how quickly 2015 has gone by!  In fact, I can barely believe that in May I will have been in The Netherlands for two years.

The saying time flies when you’re having fun definitely applies for me.

It has been a rollercoaster ride full of emotions, but I am happy to say I am 100% settled in The Netherlands.  I have an awesome job which is close to home and I am making new friends.
