Welcome to a small glimpse into my life. I am new to the blogging scene, but I am ready to jump right in and share with you my trials and adventures going Dutch.
My name is Nadia, I am 26 and originally from bonnie Scotland. I lived in the Edinburgh area since birth (I would say I lived in Midlothian but it sounds like somewhere you would find Frodo in Middle Earth, and my home town Penicuik sounds like Dutch word pannenkoek).
I will be honest I never really thought about moving abroad it just wasn’t something I thought was for me. I loved haggis, a cold glass of Irn-Bru, shortbread, saying words like ‘wee’, ‘ken’ and áye’, the sounds of bagpipes, the short Scottish summers and the beautiful hilly countrysides. I couldn’t get more Scottish if I tried… well maybe if I had ginger hair.
On the 21st June 2013 my life changed forever, I met my Dutchie! Before you press the little cross on this tab, this isn’t some soppy love story blog about how the most perfect couple’s eyes met across a crowded room.
This blog is for me to share with you my tears and happiness in taking the plunge, moving from my familiar surroundings to the warmer friendlier country that is The Netherlands. I want to share my struggles in finding work, making new friends and oh… my never ending attempts at tackling the Dutch language.
My new life motto, like the end of all opening credits for EVERY TLC show – ‘This isn’t going to be easy!‘
P.S – For the record the most perfect couple’s eyes met outside the toilets at a busy Dutch festival.
